Sinatra was born to Sicilian parents in Hoboken, NJ when it was a hard drinking port town (more bars per capita than any place in the US.)
His voice was already good enough by eight years old that he was singing on the bar top of a local nightclub for tips. Bing Crosby was his inspiration. As a teenager he was singing professionally and was picked up as a teenager to sing with Harry James and Tommy Dorsey.
His first recording was "All or Nothing at All." In 1940 was with Tommy Dorsey.
