Also known as Tom Jobim, Brazilian guitarist and songwriter Antonio Carlos Jobim was the principle force in the creation of bossa nova.
His most familiar composition "Garota de Ipanema" (The Girl from Ipanema), is among the all time most recorded songs.
In 1963 his introduction to the English speaking world was facilitated through his collaboration with saxophonist Stan Getz, Joćo Gilberto, and his wife singer Astrud Gilberto.
Jobim's influences included recordings of West Coast jazz musicians Chet Baker, Barney Kessel, and Gerry Mulligan, French classical composer Claude Debussy, combined with the rhythm of Brazilian samba.
