Born in Culpeper, Virginia in 1902, Clifford Jackson spent the beginning of his professional career in Atlantic City, before relocating to New York City in 1923.
He became a member of "Lionel Howard's Musical Aces" in 1924 and would record with jazz men Elmer Snowden and Bob Fuller and accompanied vocalists including Lena Wilson, Sara Martin, and Clara Smith.
In 1930 he made records leading his own band the "Krazy Kats", but returned to work in clubs as a soloist after the groups disbandment.
Cliff had the esteemed privilege to appear on a number of recordings with the great Sidney Bechet at the beginning of the 1940s.
He would enjoy huge success as house pianist at New York's Café Society Club from 1943 to 1951.
An exceptional stride pianist particularly renowned for his contraptional bass work, Cliff Jackson would tour with Eddie Condon in 1946 followed by stints with Garvin Bushell and J.C. Higginbotham in the coming decades.
