Trumpeter Idrees Sulieman was born on August 7th, 1923 in St. Petersburg, Florida.
He studied at the Boston Conservatory before beginning his career with Earl Hines’ wartime band.
Sulieman appeared on recordings with some of bebop’s earliest proponents, like Thelonious Monk, Lester Young, and Max Roach.
He moved to Europe in the early ‘60s and worked there the remainder of his career.
The trumpeter would proceed to work with Mary Lou Williams, Cab Calloway, Count Basie, Lionel Hampton, and John Coltrane before appearing on Coleman Hawkins' 1957 LP release "The Hawk Flies High."
Following a 1961 tour of Europe with Oscar Dennard, Sulieman settled in Stockholm before moving to Copenhagen in 1964.
He became a prominent featured soloist in the "Kenny Clarke-Francy Boland Big Band" from the mid-1960s through 1973.
Idrees Sulieman appears as a member of the "Clarke-Boland Big Band" on a 1969 episode of the German TV series "Jazz Heard & Seen."
