Medeski, Martin and Wood have always had their own sound, blending together soul jazz, funk, r&b and aspects of rock.

This 2005 film clip from a jazz festival in San Sebastian, Spain, could serve as an introduction both to the band and to its unusual but always catchy music.

“The Lover” starts with drummer Billy Martin, who is in particularly excellent form throughout.

Organist John Medeski keeps the funk flowing while creating surprising percussive sounds, and bassist Chris Wood holds the ensemble together while adding to the infectious groove.

It is very difficult not to enjoy the groove and the joy of the musicians.
