Beginning on piano as a six year old boy in Philadelphia, Ray Bryant turned professional while still in his teens accompanying many leading players such as Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, Melba Liston, and Coleman Hawkins, as well as singers Carmen McRae and Aretha Franklin.

He organized a trio in the late '50s performing overseas and also working as a soloist.

As a noted jazz composer the best known themes to his credit include "The Madison Time", "Monkey Business", "Cubano Chant", and "Little Susie."

In 1964 Ray Bryant and his brother Tommy formed a trio with drummer Oz Perkins as the band for the off-Broadway run of the comedy show "Cambridge Circus" starring John Cleese.
