A rare film clip of Vinson playing in Italy

Eddie “Cleanhead” Vinson was always most famous for his good-humored singing but he was also an excellent alto-saxophonist who was inspired by Charlie Parker.

This rare film clip features Vinson in Pescara, Italy in 1974, leading a quartet also featuring pianist Milt Buckner and bassist Arvell Shaw.

The instrumental performance gives Cleanhead an opportunity to stretch out on alto before unfortunately the tape runs out just before the last chorus.
