Frisell and his 2002 septet create some spirited ensembles

In 2002, Bill Frisell led one of his largest regular groups, a septet with three horns.

At a Montreal concert from that year, he performs “Outlaws,” a piece that he had formerly played with a trio.

On the menacing strut, Curtis Fowlkes takes a rambunctious trombone solo before Frisell joyfully leads the wild and colorful ensembles.

Personnel:

Bill Frisell, guitar
Greg Liesz, steel guitar
Ron Miles, trumpet
Curtis Fowlkes, trombone
Billy Drewes tenor
David Piltch, bass
Matt Chamberlain, drums

- Scott Yanow
