Billy Taylor and Tommy Flanagan playing in a piano duo, from "Billy Taylor's Jazz Counterpoint." Enjoy their conversations!
Tommy Flanagan, known for his work with Oscar Pettiford, Harry "Sweets" Edison, and Coleman Hawkins thru the 1950's, began performing as Ella Fitzgerald's pianist in 1962. He remained in Ella's shadow for many years ending in 1978 (aside from a three-year break in 1965). As a result his abilities have been vastly underrated.
