A half-hour from 1965
with Clark Terry and Bob Brookmeyer

Jazz 625 was one of Great Britain's most important jazz programs, half-hour shows that allowed the musicians to stretch out.

Hosted by Humphrey Lyttelton, the Oct. 13, 1965 program features flugelhornist Clark Terry and valve trombonist Bob Brookmeyer along with a British trio that includes bassist Rick Laird (six years before joining the Mahavishnu Orchestra).

Terry and Brookmeyer always made for a delightful team as they show on such numbers as "Straight No Chaser," "Hum” and Terry's "Tate a Tate."

Everyone plays great but this show would be recommended if only for Clark Terry’s exuberant playing and singing on "Things Ain’t What They Used To Be."

Personnel:

Clark Terry, flugelhorn
Bob Brookmeyer, valve trombone
Laurie Holloway, piano
Rick Laird, bass
Allan Ganley, drums

- Scott Yanow
