Oscar and the Count

1938's hit “Jumpin' at the Woodside” helped gain traction for the Count Basie Orchestra, as soon a good portion of the earth would know who they were. The piece wasn't whole planned out from top to bottom, but the band members would memorize specific riffs and then use those to interact with each other.

Late in his career, Count Basie would find himself playing frequently with fellow piano great Oscar Peterson.

Personnel:

Oscar Peterson, piano
Count Basie, piano
Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, bass
Martin Drew, drums
