Satchmo Summerfest in New Orleans

It takes a few seconds to get going. Be patient. This is great.

The Grand Ultimate jazz writer Dan Morgenstern speaks about the Grand Ultimate jazz man, Louis Armstrong.

This is from the 2015 Satchmo Summerfest in New Orleans.

In this talk Morgenstern talks about the challenges Louis faced in the 1950s and beyond, namely critics of the time who foolishly complained that Armstrong wasn't "current" enough.

Seriously? Does anyone say that about Mozart? About Bach?

Thank goodness the jazz world has grown up and that Armstrong didn't pay those critic-fools any mind.

Hang in until the end. There is a surprise that is one of those great musical moments you will probably never forget. To get the full impact, watch the whole show.

If you're short on time, you can fast forward to the last 10 minutes and you'll get the music but you'll miss the significant of the moment. (Watch and you'll see what I mean.)

Thanks to Jim Eigo for alerting us to this amazing resource. You can see the entire Satchmo Summerfest on this channel. Amazing!
