The singer-pianist does a Bill Wither song

D’Angelo is in the spotlight during a soulful version of Bill Withers’ “Use Me.”

For a New Year’s Eve program in 1998, D’Angelo is joined by quite a band.

Among those riffing behind the singer are such notables as altoist David Sanborn (the host of the program), Eric Clapton on guitar, and electric bassist Marcus Miller.

The group is so overloaded with talent that the great Steve Gadd plays guiro instead of drums.

Personnel:

D’Angelo, vocals, piano
David Sanborn, alto
Eric Clapton, guitar
Gene Lake, guitar
Ricky Peterson, organ
Marcus Miller, electric bass
Gene Lake, drums
Steve Gadd, guiro
Don Alias, percussion
