Copenhagen, 1967
Billy Strayhorn, Duke Ellington and Johnny Hodges composed this upbeat tune in the mid-'50s.
Joining Ellington on this track is bassist John Lamb, in his last of three years playing with the Duke. Lamb recalled that he was full of hubris about his own playing capability, adding, “I thought I knew more than Duke at that time.”
But time would make Lamb grateful for his travels with Ellington's band, and later Lamb would settle into an award-winning teaching carer.
