Here Cat Anderson plugged in his Harmon mute – to play an idea: a feline “tipping” – as if punching each note to the rhythm – and “whispering” – for after all Anderson was muted.

A master of muting, Anderson is playing in the key of C. Noted for his expertise in playing in the upper register, the trumpet legend could hit triple-C. He had been playing with Duke Ellington for three decades at the time of this recording.
