"Fats Waller & Mozart"

Jeff Barnhart and his "Hot Rhythm" celebrate the music of Fats Waller in Essex, Connecticut on March 2, 2014 as a featured performer at The Stu Ingersoll Jazz Concert hosted by the Essex Winter Series.

Summing up the career of Fats Waller with a brief overview, a funny story about a chance meeting with Walter Donaldson, and drawing parallels between the stride piano legend and Mozart, Jeff Barnhart and band perform "Hold My Hand" a song co-written by Waller with J.C. Johnson in 1938.

A tune which he apparently held in high regard, Waller used it as the opening and closing theme to his radio show for more than two years.

Filmed & Produced by: Eric Devine

Personnel:

Gordon Au, trumpet
Dan Levinson, clarinet & alto sax
Jeff Barnhart, piano
Bob Barta, banjo
Vince Giordano, bass
Kevin Dorn, drums
