Double bassist Jimmy Garrison was an well known for his association with John Coltrane during the 1960s replacing Reggie Workman in Coltrane's Quartet.

He first appeared on record with Coltrane and Elvin Jones on "Chasin' the Trane."

In concert he became known for his instrumental preludes and immersing solos.

Following his time with Coltrane Garrison also worked at length with Ornette Coleman.
