Live at KPLU

Gary Burton performs his vib rendition of "O Grande Amour" at KPLU-Jazz24 radio in Tacoma.

Gary Burton's main inspiration was pianist Bill Evans.

Popularizing the duet format of fusion jazz he became a major figure in jazz education in his 30 years at the Berklee College of Music.

Named Down Beat magazine's 'Jazzman of the Year' in 1968 Burton was the youngest musician to ever to receive the honor and went on to win his first Grammy in 1972.

In 1973 the vibraphonist would first embarked on his continuing collaboration with pianist Chick Corea.

His technique has since been widely emulated in the jazz world.
