Why were we "off the air" for eight hours Thursday?

We're back up and running and I wish I could tell you what happened, but I don't know. However, I do know we'll be getting a bill from my programmer for putting things right.

If anyone feels inclined to chip in and help with this extraordinary expense (about two weeks net revenue up in smoke), we'd appreciate it. Every little bit helps a lot.

From film: "The Gang's All Here," 1943

Into the late '30s, Benny Goodman and His Orchestra would prove key to bringing jazz music into the mainstream of American pop. But this number likely recorded before the musicians went through the motions, like a music video represented perhaps the apex of swing's popularity. Other forms of jazz would take over.

By the late '40s a musicians' strike would add greater industrial emphasis to solo singers.
