Jimmy Castor (1940-2012) was a singer-saxophonist active in funk, r&b and soul of the 1970s and ‘80s.

Castor’s 1972 album, It’s Just Begun, was his most successful with hit recordings of the title cut and “Troglodyte (Cave Man).”

Here is a televised version of “It’s Just Begun” from 1973 when the group was at the height of its fame.

The heavy rhythms and funky riffs would become influential long after the band had broken up.

Personnel:

Jimmy Castor, vocals, tenor
Gerry Thomas, trumpet, keyboards
Harry Jensen, guitar
Doug Gibson, electric bass
Bobby Manigault, drums
Lenny Fridle, Jr., conga

- Scott Yanow
