Joe Lovano and his quintet with
Tom Harrell and Mulgrew Miller stretch out in 1995.

One of the major post-bop tenor-saxophonists of the past 30 years, Joe Lovano has always had a large tone and an open-minded style.

He is featured on BET’s Jazz Central in 1995, chatting with host Ramsey Lewis and playing a full set with his quintet.

The performance, which includes such numbers as "Birds Of Springtime Gone By," "Fort Worth," the ballad "This Is All I Have," and Coltrane's "26-2," features strong solos from Lovano, trumpeter Tom Harrell and the late great pianist Mulgrew Miller.

Personnel:

Joe Lovano, tenor
Tom Harrell, trumpet
Mulgrew Miller, piano
Anthony Cox, bass
Tony Reedus, drums

- Scott Yanow
