Hancock plays Evans

Recorded in 1980 by Bill Evans, Joe LaBarbera and Marc Johnson, “Turn Out the Stars” was the second track from an eponymous album. Evans' implementation of block chords, impressionist harmony and highly independent melody lines mark his contributions to jazz as we understand it today.

Although Evans contributed to Miles Davis' earlier career, his journey with the trumpet great would end with Davis' movement into fusion jazz – which Evans eschewed.

John McLaughlin, guitar
Herbie Hancock, piano
