Chicago native Johnny Griffin had a big influence on hard bop saxophone. During the course of his career he would collaborate with Gerry Mulligan, Quincy Jones, Dizzy Gillespie, Art Farmer, Nat Adderley and Niels-Henning ěrsted Pedersen.
Although diminutive he was a giant to the jazz world and considered very likable as well.
