The "Lennie Tristano Sextet" recorded for Capitol in New York in May 1949.

Personnel:

Lennie Tristano, piano
Lee Konitz, alto sax
Warne Marsh, tenor sax
Billy Bauer, guitar
Arnold Fishkin, bass
Denzil Best, drums

"Digression" is one of the first two recorded examples of free form jazz both captured at a the same 1949 session by Lennie Tristano's sextet.

Though they bear little resemblance to the later manifestation of "free jazz" the tune and it's companion titled "Intuition" were the very first jazz recordings containing no prearranged components.
