From "Kind Of Blue"

Broadcast April 2, 1959 by CBS. Miles Davis, leader and trumpet; John Coltrane, tenor saxophone; Wynton Kelly, piano; Paul Chambers, bass; Jimmy Cobb, drums; and The Gil Evans Orchestra

The tune was written by Miles Davis. The piano and bass introduction for the original recording (the album "Kind of Blue") was written by Gil Evans.

For the original recording, the tempo was slow, but it picked up as the years went on

The composition has been performed by numerous jazz musicians and John Coltrane later used the same chord structure as the basis of his standard "Impressions".
