A swinging version of Thelonious Monk’s
"Bemsha Swing"

Robi Botos was born in Budapest, began playing piano when he was seven, and when he was 20 he moved to Toronto, Canada.

Since then, he won the Montreux Jazz Festival piano competition in 2004, performed with Michael Brecker and top Canadian jazz musicians, and led several albums of his own.

This video from 2005 finds Robi Botos leading a quartet in the studio that features the fine tenor-saxophonist Phil Dwyer.

While the group plays Thelonious Monk’s “Bemsha Swing,” the video alternates between scenes of Botos walking in the streets and the quartet’s performance.

Botos, Dwyer and bassist Marc Rogers take excellent solos while drummer Terri Lyne Carrington supports the lead voices.

Personnel:

Robi Botos, piano
Phil Dwyer, tenor
Marc Rogers, bass
Terri Lyne Carrington, drums
