Little known fact...New Orleans in its pre- and early jazz days was a big classical music center with very high standards of musicianship.
The city's famed French Opera House rocked from 1859 to 1919 and the first opera was performed in the city in 1790. A lot more than work songs and red light district music went into the mix that became jazz.
