Pianist Renee Rosnes swings one of
Thelonious Monk’s most complex pieces

A major pianist ever since she was hired by Joe Henderson in 1986, Renee Rosnes has long been a creative player in the modern mainstream of jazz.

This film clip from 1994 when Rosnes was 32 features the pianist with her trio (which includes her then-husband drummer Billy Drummond) effortlessly playing one of Thelonious Monk’s most complicated pieces, ”Four In One.”

After whipping through the complex melody, Rosnes takes five swinging choruses that are overflowing with ideas.

Personnel:

Renee Rosnes, piano
Michael Bowie, bass
Billy Drummond, drums
