Teatro Dell'Arte,
Milan, Italy, 1964

Written in 1963 by Miles Davis and pianist Victor Feldman, “Joshua” has since become a jazz standard. It was first featured on the album “Seven Steps to Heaven” and would subsequently be covered by Joe Henderson and Ben Webster.

Miles Davis, and his quintet, would keep performing “Joshua” regularly for the next decade. By the early '60s Davis was finished putting standards on his own albums, veering toward originality for the rest of his career.

Personnel:

Miles Davis, trumpet
Wayne Shorter, tenor saxophone
Herbie Hancock, piano
Ron Carter, bass
Tony Williams, drums
