Astrud Gilberto sings in 1964 accompanied by Stan Getz.

Brazilian singer Astrud Gilberto emigrated to the U. S. in 1963 with her husband guitarist Joćo Gilberto and went on tour with American saxophonist Stan Getz.

Although she had never sung professionally Astrud soon achieved great success with Stan Getz for their recording of Antonio Carlos Jobim's bossa nova song "The Girl from Ipanema."

Upon it's release it sold well over one Million copies prompting Gilberto's appearance in films including 1964's "Get Yourself a College Girl."

In 1965 she released hre solo debut "The Astrud Gilberto Album" featuring a blend of American jazz standards and bossa nova.

During the 1970s the multilingual Astrud began to perform songs of her own in a variety of languages.

In 1992 Astrud Gilberto was the recipient of the "Latin Jazz USA Award."

She was inducted into the International Latin Music Hall of Fame in 2002.
