Steve Gadd, drums

When he was just eleven Steve had the opportunity to sit in with Dizzy Gillespie, also influenced early on by Buddy Rich, minimalist drummer Rick Marotta, and Elvin Jones.

Drafted into the Army in the late 1960s, he spent three years at Fort Meade playing drums with the U.S. Army Field Band.

He first appeared on Gap Mangione's 1968 debut LP "Diana in the Autumn Wind."

Gadd formed a trio with Tony Levin and Mike Holmes in 1972 and traveled to New York where he became a session musician once the band dissolved.

He united with other New York studio artists including Cornell Dupree for the 1976 formation of the funk/jazz band "Stuff."

Steve Gadd was the recipient of a honorary Doctor of Music degree from Berklee College of Music in 2005 for his significant contributions.
