Why were we "off the air" for eight hours Thursday?

We're back up and running and I wish I could tell you what happened, but I don't know. However, I do know we'll be getting a bill from my programmer for putting things right.

If anyone feels inclined to chip in and help with this extraordinary expense (about two weeks net revenue up in smoke), we'd appreciate it. Every little bit helps a lot.

Charles Hotel, Cambridge, Mass.,
August 21, 1985

First recorded by jazz piano great Thelonious Monk for the 1952 album “Thelonious Monk Trio,” “Bemsha Swing” has since become a jazz standard. Fusion guitar player Larry Coryell is among the many who have done covers, but even non-jazz artists like the Red Hot Chili Peppers have toured with the standard.

Woody Shaw, whom NPR once called “the last great trumpet innovator,” collaborated with Mal Waldron, Chick Corea, Art Blakey, McCoy Tyner and Freddie Hubbard.
