Why were we "off the air" for eight hours Thursday?

We're back up and running and I wish I could tell you what happened, but I don't know. However, I do know we'll be getting a bill from my programmer for putting things right.

If anyone feels inclined to chip in and help with this extraordinary expense (about two weeks net revenue up in smoke), we'd appreciate it. Every little bit helps a lot.

"Well you Needn't" is a Thelonious Monk composition. This recording appeared on the masterful 1957 LP Monk's Music.

The construction is pretty simple. The A section is just two chords.

It's an excellent tune for improvisors, including beginners. In the hands of masters, including those featured on this recording, it's a fantastic vehicle.

Thelonious Monk - piano
John Coltrane - tenor sax
Coleman Hawkins - tenor sax
Gigi Gryce - alto sax
Ray Copeland - trumpet
Wilbur Ware - bass
Art Blakey - drums

Jamie Cullum wrote these lyrics for it:

You're talkin' so sweet well you needn't
You say you won't cheat well you needn't
You're tappin' your feet well you needn't
It's over now, it's over now

You're dressin' with class well you needn't
You're holdin' your sass well you needn't
You think you're a gas well you needn't
It's over now, it's over now

It's over now, it's over now
You've had your fun, so take a bow
You oughta know, you lost the glow, the beat is slow, the shadows grow,
The lights are low, it's time to go, let's close the show down
