Straight-ahead swinging from 1972

Musical magic always occurred whenever pianist Oscar Peterson and tenor-saxophonist Ben Webster met up, whether it was in the 1950s or in 1972, a year before Webster’s death.

At the time, Peterson was very much in his prime while Webster, who had lived in Europe for the previous eight years, was still capable of playing close to the peak of his powers when he was inspired.

In addition to Webster and Peterson, bassist Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen takes a fine solo while the tradeoff between the tenor and drummer Tony Inzalaco is a highpoint.

Ben Webster and the Oscar Peterson Trio bring out the best in each other on a minor blues.

Personnel:

Oscar Peterson, piano
Ben Webster, tenor
Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen, bass
Tony Inzalaco, drums

- Scott Yanow
