After the Count Basie Orchestra arrived in New York in late-1936, their brand of Kansas City Swing greatly influenced other bands and made a permanent impact.
The 1941 Basie Orchestra is featured on brief but exciting versions of “Dance Of The Gremlins” and “Swinging The Blues.”
Ranking among the earliest films of the Basie band, these performances have solo space for trumpeter Harry “Sweets” Edison, tenor-saxophonist Don Byas (who had replaced Lester Young just a few months earlier), and Basie on piano plus some hot drum breaks by Jo Jones.
