First recorded by Louis Jordan in 1945, his jump blues classic “Caldonia” would go on to have a profound influence on music. When Erskine Hawkins covered it the same year, Billboard would call it “rock and roll.” Never before had the phrase “rock and roll” been put to print.
Jordan's recording of this song reached no. 5 on the predecessor to the Billboard rhythm and blues charts.
