Written in 1958 by Jon Hendricks and Harry Edison, “Centerpiece” has since become a jazz standard. Joni Mitchell would (partially) cover the song in the mid-'70s for her album “The Hissing of Summer Lawns.”

In the '50s Hawkins would play with Roy Eldridge, Ray Brown and Ben Wester.

Personnel:

Coleman Hawkins, sax
Harry "Sweets" Edison, trumpet
Charles Thompson, piano
