A Blue Note Classic
Pat Metheny is featured performing "Cantalope Island" with the Herbie Hancock band.
Hancock originally released this classic number on his 1964 Blue Note LP Ā"Empyrean IslesĀh" while he was still a member of Miles Davis' quintet.

Guitarist and composer Pat Metheny was born on August 12th, 1954 in Leeís Summit, Missouri.
The 15-year-old Metheny was introduced to the world of professional jazz after winning a Down Beat scholarship to a one-week jazz program in New York City.
Metheny released the classic jazz fusion LP Bright Size Life when he was only 21.
His most recent album is 2014ís Kin, recorded with his newest band, Unity Group.
After graduating from high school he attended the University of Miami in 1972 and began teaching there a short time later before moving to Boston to join the faculty at the Berklee College of Music.
Pat made his recording debut in 1974 on sessions for pianist Paul Bley and Carol Goss' Improvising Artists label, also featuring Jaco Pastorius.
In 1975 he emerged on the jazz scene as a member of vibraphonist Gary Burton's band and has since collaborate and performed with musicians including Dave Holland, Roy Haynes, Jim Hall, Chick Corea, Charlie Haden, John Scofield, Jack DeJohnette, Herbie Hancock, Ornette Coleman, and Michael Brecker.
Forming his own band the "Pat Metheny Group" in 1977 he continues to tour and create, with his latest album "KIN" released on the Nonesuch label in February 2014.
