Jimmy Scott was born in Cleveland, Ohio where he sang in the church as a child.

Born with Kallmann's syndrome, the rare genetic disorder stunted his growth and left him with an unusually high voice.

Jimmy came to fame as a featured vocalist with Lionel Hampton's Orchestra beginning with the single "Everybody's Somebody's Fool." Recorded in December 1949 it became a major R&B hit the following year.

Given the nickname "Little Jimmy Scott" by Lionel Hampton he was particularly renowned for his emotional treatment of romantic ballads.

Since he was often un-credited for his recorded appearances Scott's career suffered but in 1963, he signed to Ray Charles' Tangerine label recording his most celebrated album "Falling in Love is Wonderful."

After falling into obscurity and finding work out side of music by the late '60s Jimmy Scott resurfaced to resume his career as a recording artist and performer subsequently releasing the albums "All The Way" (1992), "Dream" (1994) "Heaven" (1996), and "Holding Back The Years" (1998).
