Bassist Jon Burr has been heard in a wide variety of settings throughout his career.

At Birdland, Burr led a quintet featuring singer Ty Stephens and tenor-saxophonist Houston Person.

On “Nobody Said It Was Easy,” Stephens takes an enthusiastic yet relaxed vocal while Person (who is a master at backing singers) plays stimulating ideas behind Stephens before launching into a typically soulful and swinging solo of his own.

Burr has a fine spot on bass before Stephens and Person take the fun performance out.
