Mel Torme and Jon Hendricks, two of the all-time great jazz singers, rarely ever teamed up together but they did share the stage at the climax of a concert at the San Francisco Jazz Festival in the mid-1980s.

With the Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra swinging behind them, Torme and Hendricks perform the medium-tempo “Down For Double.”

Their trade-off of scatting is quite exciting and they clearly enjoyed playing off each other.

The joy of jazz is felt throughout this performance.
