Two excellent performances of the trumpeter in 1963

Kenny Dorham (1924-72) was one of the top trumpeters to emerge from the bebop era, and he continued evolving into becoming a major hard bop trumpeter in the 1960s.
While overshadowed by Dizzy Gillespie, Fats Navarro, Clifford Brown and Miles Davis, Dorham was essentially in their league as a distinctive trumpeter and composer.
His career highlights include being in Charlie Parker’s quintet in 1948-49, an original member of the Jazz Messengers, a leader on many fine Blue Note sessions, composing “Blue Bossa,” and introducing tenor-saxophonist Joe Henderson.
There is very little film of Kenny Dorham but his playing of two songs in 1963 on a televised performance in Stockholm is a gem.
