After more than a decade of great commercial success following his vocal hit “This Masquerade,” guitarist George Benson had a hankering to return to straight ahead jazz.

Benson hired the McCoy Tyner Trio in 1989 and took them on tour, giving the great Tyner an opportunity to play before some of the biggest audiences of his career.

This uptempo version of “Stella By Starlight” features the guitarist taking a blazing solo, showing that his success had not blurred his artistry.

Tyner follows him with a typically inspiring improvisation that makes Benson smile.
