Irakere perform a set at the Capitol Theatre in Passaic, New Jersey.

Founded by pianist Chucho Valdés in 1973, Irakere is one of Cuba's most influential bands. Their signature sound, which incorporates bebop, Latin jazz, and Cuban folk, has helped define Afro-Cuban jazz since the late '70s. Some of Cuba's most famous jazz musicians, like saxophonist Paquito D'Rivera and trumpeter Arturo Sandoval, have been members of the group.
