A ballad medley featuring two unique soloists

This rare film clip from 1970 features two West Coast jazz veterans from the 1950s on a ballad medley while accompanied by an Italian big band.

One of the finest trombonists of his time, Rosolino displays his wide range and complete control of his horn on “Sweet And Lovely,” playing some rapid runs and making them look easy.

Tony Scott, a top cool jazz clarinetist in the 1950s who became a worldwide traveler after leaving New York in 1950, makes a surprise and effective appearance on baritone sax which he rarely played.

Scott sounds quite original on “Sophisticated Lady,” showing that clarinet was not the only horn that he had mastered.
