A beautiful duet version of Shorter’s classic song

In his career, particularly in the 1960s and early ‘70s, Wayne Shorter wrote some highly original songs that had their own logic and beauty, influencing the many musicians who would follow.

“Nefertiti,” which made its debut when Shorter was a member of the Miles Davis Quintet in 1967, is one of his more haunting numbers.

This brief version, recorded as a duet with keyboardist Mitch Forman, is unusual for it is played slow with Shorter on soprano who lets the melody breathe in memorable fashion.
