The "Count Basie Alumni Band" perform at the 1980 North Sea Jazz Festival featuring tenor saxophone solos by Buddy Tate and Billy Mitchell.

Like many musicians, Texas native Buddy Tate got his start playing in a group he and his friends formed as teenagers. Though Tate began with alto sax he would soon switch to tenor sax before joining the bands of Andy Kirk and then finally Count Basie, with whom he would stay for nine years.
