Composed by Miles Davis in 1958

Originally known as simply "Miles".

In this '60s performance of "Milestones" in Europe, tenor saxophonist Booker Ervin joins Ted Curson on trumpet, Pony Poindexter on alto sax, Nathan Davis on flute, pianist Kenny Drew, Jimmy Wood on string bass and Edgar Bateman on drums.

This 1958 composition by Miles Davis has since become a jazz standard, although this is a much faster-tempo version than Davis' original. Its experimental, modal style would pave the way for the following year's classic album “Kind of Blue” – particularly Miles' famous track “So What.”

Originally titled simply “Miles,” the name “Milestones” caught on, and later album editions featured that name change. It's been covered by some musicians you would probably never have suspected: Phil Collins, Little Feat and Jerry Garcia.
