Like many musicians, Texas native Buddy Tate got his start playing in a group he and his friends formed as teenagers. Though Tate began with alto sax he would soon switch to tenor sax before joining the bands of Andy Kirk and then finally Count Basie, with whom he would start for nine years.

This is a Count Basie number.
