“Blue Matter” is the title track off of John Scofield's 10th studio album, released the same year as this live performance. Although Jim Beard is jamming the keytar, the studio album's keyboard was done by Mitchel Forman.

Scofield has performed with many excellent musicians in his decades' long career – including bassist Jaco Pastorius, fellow guitarist Pat Metheny and Medeski Martin & Wood.

John picked up the guitar at 11 with an early background in rock and blues.

He released an album in 2005, “That's What I Say: John Scofield Plays the Music of Ray Charles” which included vocalists Warren Haynes, Aaron Neville, and Mavis Staples.
